Frequently Asked Questions |
| I am new to motor-caravans, so how much do I need to bring with me? |
Our vehicles are prepared "ready to go". There will be adequate initial supplies of fresh water and cooking gas on board, together with a full tank of diesel fuel. You can bring your own bedding or hire it (see Extras on the Tariff). Otherwise your main needs will be food (there is a fridge), and appropriate clothing for the weather and type of trip intended.
If you have planned a route from camping site to camping site, you may find it convenient to book pitches including mains electricity hookups (which simply plug into the side of the vehicle). If not, you may wish to consider hiring a generator (see Extras), which will be supplied with a full tank of fuel.
How soon you may need to replenish water and fuel depends upon you. Please do contact us to discuss any such matters - we are always happy to offer advice and suggestions.

| What type of driving licence do I need for a Motorhome? |
Holders of a UK Category B driving licence obtained prior to 1 January 1997 may drive a motorhome up to 7500 kgs (7.5 tonnes) gross weight. Category B licences obtained after that date restrict holders to motorhomes less than 3500 kgs (3.5 tonnes) unless a LGV (Light Goods Vehicle) licence has been obtained. Since all our motorhomes are less than 3500 kgs gross, a Category B licence is sufficient. This is the same as an standard car licence.
If in any doubt see the official Driving Motorhomes page for further details. |
| If I drive to you, can I leave my car when I collect my Motorhome? |
| Yes. We can allow 1 car parking space per hire in our yard, but cannot accept responsibility for any loss or damage whilst it is parked with us. |
| When can I collect the Motorhome? |
For weekly (Friday to Friday) and weekend (Friday to Monday) hires collection is between 3.00pm and 5.00pm on the Friday afternoon.
For mid-week hires (Monday to Friday) collection is between 3.00pm and 5.00pm on Monday.
You can always call us a few days before and, if your vehicle isn't on hire, you may be able to come earlier in the day. |
| When do I have to return the Motorhome? |
For weekly (Friday to Friday) and mid-week (Monday to Friday) hires, returns must be between 9.00am and 10.30am on the Friday.
For weekend (Friday to Monday) hires returns need to be between 9.00am and 10.30am on the Monday.
We do insist on your being punctual, as we need time to make sure the vehicle is fully prepared for the next group to take out. |
| How long should I allow for the handover at the beginning of my holiday? |
If it is your first time with a Motorhome, we like to spend at least an hour with you running through the various features and how they should be used, and answering any questions until you feel confident with the vehicle. If you need longer on some aspects, that is fine with us. Some new hirers find it helpful to bring a "what if?" list with them.
If you are familiar with Motorhomes, and have the correct documentation ready, it should take no more than about 15 minutes to process the paperwork and give you a quick tour of the vehicle.
You will need to allow some additional time for unpacking and arranging things - how much depends upon you, but please give yourself sufficient time to get to your first planned stop. If you have been delayed getting to us, we may have to ask to complete unpacking outside our premises so that we can lock up, but we won't "throw you out" until you are happy with how best to make use of the Motorhome! |
| Can I leave my suitcases with you when I've unpacked? |
| Yes. We are happy to store empty suitcases for you. |
| Can I smoke in the Motorhome? |
| No. We have a strict NO SMOKING policy. In any case it is now illegal to smoke in our Motorhomes. |
| Can I bring animals on holiday with me? |
| No. We do not allow any animals, apart from registered Guide Dogs, to travel in hired Motorhomes (except in one we may designate as a "pet Motorhome"). |
| How does the insurance work? |
Our Motorhomes carry comprehensive motor insurance for the UK mainland which can be extended to Western Europe. This is to cover damage to the vehicle or to third parties.
If there is damage to the Motorhome and the accident was your fault, your liability is for the first £750.
In the case of damage caused due to the third party we will retain the excess until it is agreed it is the other party's fault. Many people claim that it isn't their fault initially, though it may turn out to be their responsibility once the facts are checked. Until the insurers are agreed upon whose fault it was we cannot make our own judgements.
For overhead damage (eg from trees) you are liable for the first £1500.
For write-off or theft you are liable for the first £1500.
Please note that damage caused by acts of negligence, misuse or abuse is entirely your responsibility. |
| Why do I have to pay a £500 damage deposit? |
| This is the insurance excess during the hire and is fully returnable on completion of your holiday as long as the Motorhome is returned undamaged, reasonably clean and with the waste water tank and toilet empty. |
